Widex SmartRIC: A New Hearing Aid Formfactor
If you’ve read our last blog regarding the stigma surrounding what most people think a hearing aid looks like, you will understand why Widex have created their striking new hearing aid.
The new slim L-shaped design of these hearing aids immediately catches the eye, with directional microphone inlets neatly tucked away on the sides. Widex has made some significant changes to their microphone position, opting for a 20% horizontal angle. According to Widex, this adjustment offers two key benefits compared to their previous technology:
Firstly, the new microphone angle enhances the effectiveness of the directional microphones, resulting in improved hearing performance in background noise.
Secondly, with the microphones tucked away, their functionality is enhanced in windy conditions and when handling noise is present. This means that on windy days, the sound won't be as overwhelming compared to previous models, resulting in a 20 decibel reduction in wind noise. Additionally, there's an 88% improvement in reducing touch noise when interacting with the hearing aids, such as running fingers through hair or touching them.
Widex have also introduced a new portable charger for this product.
The Moment platform that powers the SmartRIC is claimed by Widex to deliver the most pure, natural sound ever. Typically, sound processed in a hearing aid reaches the eardrum later than sound heard directly. And when these two ‘out of sync’ signals mix, you get an artificial sound. But now you can hear every moment - like you used to due to the speed of the processing. Widex call this new sound experience, PureSound.
Widex have five different colours to choose with four being the most popular from their previous range, and the new addition of rose gold.
The Widex SmartRIC will be available towards the end of March 2024. Please do get in touch if you would like to be one of the first to trial this exciting new formfactor in the UK.
